Melanie Mulhausen graduated from Rollins College in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, she taught 4th Grade for five consecutive school years. Currently, she serves on the administrative team at her school, training teachers and serving kids of all ages. Melanie has a passion for social-emotional teaching and learning. She is thrilled to be joining the Social Bridges team!

Carol Perez holds a master’s degree in Social Work with a certification in Children’s Services from the University of Central Florida. She served for over 10 years in the public school setting as an ELL paraprofessional working with English language learners (ELL). Currently, Mrs. Carol is working as a high school social worker while pursuing a license in clinical social work.

Maria Van Sant is a licensed Speech and language Pathologist. She holds undergraduate degrees in both Psychology and Communicative Disorders. She has a Masters Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Central Florida. Maria has been working for over 20 years in the field of speech therapy with a variety of ages and populations. She  has worked in several settings including hospital inpatient and rehabilitation as well as private practice.  She has experience with children with various social emotional and pragmatic deficits.

Maria is looking forward to being a member of the Social Bridges team.

Director and Cofounder

Carol T. Miller is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#SW7648) holding a Master’s Degree in Social Work, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Drama Therapy.

Ms. Miller has worked with children for over 25 years in a variety of therapeutic settings. She has practiced drama therapy in psychiatric hospitals, conducted therapy groups in schools, served as a therapist and administrator at a community mental health center, and has been the director of a parenting center in Central Florida.

In addition to developing the curriculum for Social Bridges®, administering the program and facilitating groups, Ms. Miller provides individual and family social coaching and counseling and trains professionals to utilize the Social Bridges Toolbox Curriculum. Ms. Miller also serves as an Adjunct Professor with the University of Central Florida.

Danielle Bentz holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Adler University in Chicago. She has worked as a Child and Family Therapist and has experience in the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and emotional disorders. Her clinical focus has been the treatment of trauma within the child and adolescent population. Ms. Bentz is in the process of becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida.

Amy Maretti holds a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education with a certification in Exceptional Education K-12. Mrs. Maretti has taught children of varying abilities in the public school setting. Mrs. Maretti now serves as the  Administrator for Social Bridges®, is the supervisor to elementary facilitators, and assists in training new staff, schools, and parents new to the program. Mrs. Maretti has been a facilitator for Social Bridges® since 2014.

Thomas Adams is attending Seminole State College where they are earning their Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences with a specialization in Healthcare Simulation Education. Thomas was in the Social Bridges program as a middle schooler and worked with the program as a volunteer in high school.

Thomas has been running Dungeons and Dragons groups since their freshman year of high school in 2014 and has used Dungeons and Dragons to meet friends and create social circles throughout their college years. Dungeons and Dragons has been a large part of their life as creating unique stories and interconnected worlds has brought Thomas a lot of joy over the years.

Thomas is excited to be able to contribute to introducing more people to the wonder that is Dungeons and Dragons and can't wait to see what kinds of adventures the kids will become a part of.

Ms. Bellet received her Master's degree in counseling from Rollins College and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH7680). She has over 15 years of experience working with children with learning disabilities and autism in school settings and private agencies. Ms. Bellet incorporates a variety of modalities in her work including drama and mindfulness relaxation techniques. In addition to facilitating groups, Pam also provides social coaching and counseling for families at Social Bridges®.

Emily received her Master’s degree from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. She has spent over 20 years working with children preschool aged through early adolescence and their families in a variety of settings. Shannon Hickey is a certified teacher in Early Childhood Education and Exceptional Student Education. Ms. Hickey graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Development in 2012. She has experience teaching in an inclusion multi-age Kindergarten and First Grade classroom for six years. Ms. Hickey has worked with the general education population, children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and a variety of other special needs. Ms. Hickey has been with Social Bridges® since 2012.

Hailey Miller earned her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development and Education from the University of Central Florida. Ms. Miller worked at Social Bridges as an intern last spring with all age groups. Professionally, she has worked with children of varying ages in the private school setting; teaching as a preschool teacher for 2 years, and is now an elementary school teacher for Kindergarten through 5th grade. Ms. Miller is very excited to formally join the Social Bridges Team.

Rachel Slavkin brings to Social Bridges® her passion for helping individuals with special needs. Rachel earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Special Education from Penn State University and has been working in the field for over 25 years. Rachel has taught special education in the K-12 system and was Special Education Department Chair of a public school district in Pennsylvania before moving to Central Florida.

Rachel now serves on the faculty of Seminole State College in the Adult Education department and is the Director of Employment and Education of RAISE (Recognizing Abilities and Inclusion of Special Employees), a work and social skills training program for adults with disabilities. As a facilitator for Social Bridges® since 2007, Rachel leads social skills therapy groups for adolescents, teens, and adults with social challenges.

Amy Weston is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH3812).  She received her Master of Arts from Rollins College in 1992. She has extensive experience working with individuals dealing with major psychiatric disorders in a community mental health setting.

 Currently, she provides job coaching services through RAISE and area businesses. She works with individuals with Down Syndrome and those coping with mental health issues. She is an independent consultant for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida and Families Exploring Down Syndrome of Brevard. She facilitates training classes based on curriculum she has developed, targeting social skills and employability training, for teens and adults with Down Syndrome.

Additionally, Amy provides tutoring services for adults with Down Syndrome, with a concentration on reading and math. Amy also provides social coaching and counseling for families at Social Bridges®.

Rachel Otero is a Senior at the University of Central Florida and is studying Early Childhood Development. She has both worked and volunteered in preschool classrooms and has been involved with the high school youth program at her church. In her free time Rachel enjoys going to Disney, watching MARVEL movies, and spending time at the beach. She is so excited to have the chance to complete her practicum at Social Bridges this summer, and is looking forward to her graduation from UCF in August.

Webmaster

Ryan Latterell has just graduated from Trinity Preparatory School and will be  attending the UCF Burnett Honors College in the fall for engineering and photography. Ryan has been with Social Bridges for over a year now and has been the webmaster and photography guru. In addition to running the site, Ryan has led the technical aspects of our Summer Stock Theater and led smartphone photography classes. When not at Social Bridges, Ryan can be found socializing with his friends or reading up on the latest tech and cars, that is, if he isn't photographing anything.

Mr. Bentz holds Bachelors Degrees in English and Rhetoric from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He is the Co-Facilitator for our monthly Creative Writing Workshops and Co-Facilitator for Nintendo Fan Club. Mr. Bentz has been playing Minecraft since 2009 and is also one of our skilled Minecraft Coordinators here at Social Bridges.

Facilitator

Shari Pridgen is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and has worked in early intervention therapy since 2010. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Special Education at the University of North Florida. She specialized in Applied Behavior Analysis for children on the Autism Spectrum along with other learning disabilities. Her practice focuses on parent training, working in community settings, natural environment training and social skills. Shari has worked with clients within school settings, at home and in the community. This will be her first year at Social Bridges and she is excited to expand her experiences and work with children in a group setting!
